At the October 2014 Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency board of director's meeting, MRWPCA recognized Ocean Mist Farms for its contributions to water sustainability in the Salinas Valley. Dale Huss, vice president of artichoke production, received the certificate from MRWPCA's Vice Chair, Gloria De La Rosa, City Council member from the City of Salinas and Keith Israel, general manager of the MRWPCA.
The certificate was the result of Ocean Mist Farms and MRWPCA being honored at the One Water Innovations Gala held in New Orleans on Sept. 28. An award was presented to both entities for their creative partnerships in demonstrating how public agencies, industries and producers can work together to promote the beneficial uses of recycled water.
"We made a conscious decision to reward partnerships with this award," said WateReuse Executive Director Melissa Meeker. "The partnership is between a public agency that has shown leadership in our industry and their customer that has shown a willingness to take a chance, do the right thing and use the right water for the right use."
While at the One Water Innovations event, Mr. Huss gave a presentation about how recycled water is used in producing food crops. At the gala, attendees dined on produce grown by Ocean Mist Farms.
